Official Charts Analysis: Arctic Monkeys beat Avicii to No.1 on albums chart


Pitted against new releases by five acts who have racked up a total of 14 number ones between them, Arctic Monkeys nevertheless remain kings of the jungle and stay top of the tree with fifth album, AM. Selling 57,486 copies on its second frame, the album was never in trouble against new releases from former chart toppers Elton John (seven number ones), Jack Johnson (three), Katie Melua (two), Jack Johnson (one) and Diana Vickers (one).
