British artists dominating Amazon Prime Music streams

Amazon Prime Music celebrates its first birthday in the UK, and British acts are currently dominating its streaming charts.

Since launching last year, the service claims that the number of Prime members using Prime Music has doubled. It also says members are listening more - playback hours have more than tripled.

Particularly interesting is the number of UK artists dominating streams on the service. The current most-listened to song on the service is Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars and the current most-listened to album is A Head Full Of Dreams by Coldplay.

“Our Prime members love having music as a part of their membership, and to mark the first year anniversary of Prime Music launching here in the UK we’re excited to see that more than double the amount of Prime members are enjoying Prime music,” said Paul Firth, head of Amazon Digital Music UK.

“British artists continue to dominate the charts both here at home and abroad,” added Paul Firth. “So it’s no surprise that seven out of ten of the top streamed artists on Prime Music since launch are from the UK.”

There are currently seven British acts on the Top 10 most streamed artists chart on Amazon Prime, with Coldplay again setting the pace. Ed Sheeran, The Beatles and One Direction also chart highly.
