Notion Magazine is hiring an Editor. Reporting to Managing Director, the Editor is in charge of the creative and editorial direction of the magazine. Responsibilities would include: commissioning features, liaising with contacts in the music industry and working with contributors both internal and external, across digital and print to ensure Notion's voice stands out among competitors. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the editorial team at a growing independent publication, writing, editing and directing content for both print and online. 

The ideal candidate will be very familiar with Notion's content and tone of voice, have a comprehensive knowledge of current trends in music, fashion and culture and have a minimum of three years experience at a publication in the music/culture sector.

They should also feel comfortable directing stylists, photographers and journalists and have a network of contacts throughout these fields, as well as an extensive network of contacts in the music industry. The ideal candidate will also have excellent written communication skills. 


  • Oversee editorial agenda across print, digital and social
  • Management of small editorial team
  • Developing strong audience demographic
  • Deliver content to attract target demographic
  • Deliver content to grow attractive audience with end goal of attracting new commercial clients
  • Deliver business goals to team/writers/creatives to ensure all deliver specific content targeted at specific audience
  • Ensure business knows and follows Notion’s values and practises
  • Ensures all team know their specific roles and functions
  • Being main point of contact for top-line editorial enquiries
  • Ensure editorial arm is in line with commercial requirements at all times
  • Liaise with commercial team & drive business

Job Specification


  • Set agenda for all of Notion’s platforms, ensuring all themes and structure is sent out in advance
  • Set editorial dates and ensure team follows calendar closely
  • Ensure external contributors are informed of and follow dates and themes
  • Work with Art Director to ensure a consistent look and feel of the magazine
  • Talent outreach, communication & negotiation
  • Writer outreach & recruitment
  • Editing of all pieces within print & digital to ensure all targeted to Notion’s demographic/advertisers
  • Write pieces for the magazine
  • Ensure commercial deliverables are met
  • Ensure content is current & commercially attractive
  • Regularly prepare information on all artists/features that can be commercialised in good time for commercial team


  • Work closely with commercial team, assisting with projects where necessary
  • Advise on commercial projects, helping with editorial stance
  • Occasionally contribute to commercial projects, whether this be writing, sub-editing or proofing copy, or some level of production
  • On specific projects where skillset is best matched for example, video or copy-based projects, it may be necessary to manage/oversee a project, but agenda and deliverables should be provided by commercial team


  • Grow database of writers to ensure a strong network of contributing writers
  • Work with production team to share and grow large network of creatives
  • Represent the brand at music & fashion events
  • Be a representative for the brand at all times
  • Personally promote the Notion brand and work

Desired Skills & Experience 

  • 3 years experience in a similar role at a similar level preferably working across multiple mediums (print & online)
  • Confidence to effectively manage relationships with creatives including writers, photographers, stylists
  • Established black book of relationships across the industry, particularly with writers and PRs
  • Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills
  • Team leader with management experience
  • Experience of Wordpress, computer packages (Google For Business, Microsoft), social media, analytics and tracking tools
