Mute Song is seeking a dynamic individual to join the company as Music Publishing Assistant.
This position presents a terrific opportunity for a bright and engaging person to embark on
a rewarding career in music publishing.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication
skills and show highly meticulous administrative ability. Preference will be given to
candidates who can show previous work experience where these skills were employed and
developed.
The successful individual will demonstrate a serious knowledge of music with receptivity to
the kind of original, innovative, experimental and challenging artists and repertoire Mute
Song is famous for.
A degree in music and the ability to read and write musical notation would be an asset to
any candidate as will a broad general interest or work/study experience in cinema, ballet,
theatre or other audio-visual arts but these are not firm requirements for the position.
Diverse and creative work/life/study experience is welcome provided the candidate is
excited with the prospect of music publishing career.

Tasks
The role of Music Publishing Assistant will involve all parts of the company and will include:
• Tracking Mute Song writer activity Worldwide, especially live performance.
• Following writers on-line, in the press and where ever else their activities are
 revealed.
• Speaking directly with writers or their management to gather information and
 relevant assets (music, videos, press materials etc.).
• Digesting all new music and media.
• Advising colleagues and sub-publishers of new music, live activity and motivating
 news.
• Operating a highly detailed comprehensive ongoing database of all live
 performances by all Mute Song writers world-wide.
• Collecting and registering set lists with collection societies and sub-publishers for
 each and every performance world-wide.
• Advising colleagues, sub-publishers and VIPs of upcoming performances in their
 locale and coordinating ticket, passes or guest list for attendees.
• Attending London shows and occasionally regional or international performances.
• Updating the Mute Song website and other social media with news, music, photos,
 films and setting up new writers on the site.
• Assisting the Copyright and Royalties department with new work registrations and
royalty tracking.
• Coordinating the hire of sheet music for live performances.
• Preparing agendas for weekly and monthly meetings, taking minutes and following
 up with colleagues on action points.
• Acting as assistant to the company Head.
 Candidates are encouraged to show how their skills or experience may help to execute
 these tasks.

Working alongside the company Head and other highly experienced staff will offer the
successful candidate a rare opportunity to learn every aspect of the music publishing
business.

Mute Song is the London based music publishing arm of the Mute group of companies
alongside a record label and artist management division.
Mute, the records label, was founded by Daniel Miller in 1978 with the release of his own
single – The Normal ‘TVOD / Warm Leatherette’. Following great success with his label,
Miller founded Mute Song in 1983.
Mute Song's early roster had strong links to the record label but has since diversified to
include composers working with dozens of other labels across all genres and in film,
television, ballet, opera, theatre and visual art.
Mute Song represents Underworld, Max Richter, Johann Johannsson, Nick Cave & The Bad
Seeds, SWANS, Public Service Broadcasting, Wire, Ben Frost, Gabriel Prokofiev, Peter
