Indie labels in the US managed to increase their market share by 2% in 2013 and retain their collective lead over the majors based on ownership.
According to Nielsen Soundscan figures, based on company ownership, the indie labels took 34.6% of the US market in 2013 – up from 32.6% in 2012.
That figure compares to 28.5% for Universal Music Group in 2013 (up from 23.9% in 2012), 22.3% for Sony (down from 22.5%) and 14% for Warner Music Group ...
