'It's a great brand with a great name': Blue Raincoat revives Cooltempo imprint

Blue Raincoat Music has revived the Chrysalis Cooltempo imprint and will target new signings on the label.

As revealed in the latest issue of Music Week, Blue Raincoat is bringing back Cooltempo after almost 20 years. The label previously released artists including D’Angelo, Monie Love, Gang Starr, Arrested Development and Paul Hardcastle.

Blue Raincoat took ownership of Cooltempo as part of the Chrysalis acquisition in 2016. As well as retaining Cooltempo catalogue for its UK artists such as Kenny Thomas and Shara Nelson, Blue Raincoat will release new signings for the first time. The company has so far focused on catalogue reissues, as well as making acquisitions as part of the Parlophone Warner divestment process.

Cooltempo's first release will come from DJ and producer Francesca Lombardo, whose Eye Ring single is out this month, followed by debut album Life Of Leaf. Further releases from Cooltempo will include the debut album from electronic duo Infinity Ink. Both acts are management clients of Blue Raincoat.

Cooltempo will be distributed worldwide via Amsterdam-based Armada Music, who also have an office in London. Blue Raincoat worked with Armada in brokering a similar distribution deal for KMS Records, the label owned by management client Kevin Saunderson.

Jeremy Lascelles, CEO Chrysalis Records and Blue Raincoat Music, said: “Cooltempo is a great brand with a great name. We are very pleased to continue its legacy by releasing such a wonderful album from Fran. We are also delighted to be continuing our relationship with Armada, who have done such impressive work on Kevin’s longstanding KMS label.”

Maykel Piron, CEO Armada Music, said: “I still remember playing lots of Cooltempo releases on vinyl back in the day and it’s great to see the legendary imprint making its return. We are really excited and proud to be part of this and we’re sure Cooltempo will continue to cement its position as an electronic music staple.”
