Six Questions With... Victor de la Serna of Elrow

Welcome to the latest edition of Six Questions With..., a weekly short and sharp interview with a live music figure. Email jhanley@nbmedia.com if you would like to take part or recommend someone for inclusion.

This week’s Q&A is with elrow bookings director Victor de la Serna. elrow will be hosting stages at Electric Zoo in New York, this summer which runs from September 1-3 and The Ark - Cruise from August 31 to September 3, as well as their own events across the globe.

What was your first job in music?

Like many in this industry I started as a DJ in Spain, then London and touring around Europe.

How long have you been in your current role?

I have been with elrow for three years

What is your favourite thing about working in the live music industry?

Music has always been my passion and I have been fortunate enough to always work in the music industry in some shape or form, so turning you passion into your profession I think is my favourite thing.

What is the one thing you would like to change about the business?

I guess we could do with less egos…

What has been the highlight of your career so far?

There have been so many and all vary with the role I have had. In the last 3 years I would say switching the Christmas lights on in Carnaby Street or having our own stages at festivals like Glastonbury and Tomorrowland.

What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

For this one I will not use electronic music. In 2004 while I was living in London and I was a resident at Pacha I had tickets to see The Red Hot Chili Peppers. I had a gig that night so I couldn’t stay for the whole concert but still I went before my gig knowing I was only going to be able to see them for a couple of tracks. However this turned into the best gig I’ve ever been since the group supporting RHCP was none other than James Brown himself… mind blown!!
