Stephanie May appointed Virgin Radio head of music

Virgin Radio has appointed Stephanie May as its new head of music, effective January 23.

In her new role, May will be responsible for the Virgin Radio playlist and booking artists for live sessions, special events and outside broadcasts.

She has enjoyed a varied career in the music industry, having served as marketing manager for a wide range of venues, including Kentish Town Forum, Birmingham Ballroom and O2 Academy in Birmingham, before moving into the radio industry with Kerrang! and more recently becoming music programmer for Radio X (formerly Xfm).

In addition to working as a DJ and managing club nights, she is also on the voting panel for the Critics’ Choice Awards at the BRITs.

May said: “Music has always been my first love, to be able to bring that love to Virgin Radio and marry it with the wonderful team there and together create a station that is musically diverse, entertaining and fun is such an exciting opportunity.

“Music is the closest thing we have to magic but it's also personal - with so much inspiring music to come in 2017 and beyond from the changing world around us, this is such a wonderful time to be creating new musical chapters and memories with the team and the listeners of Virgin Radio.”

Liam Thompson, programme director for Virgin Radio, added: “We’re really looking forward to having Stephanie join the team – her genuine passion for music alongside her professional involvement in lots of different parts of the industry will be great for the station.”
