Hailing from the deep forests of Dalarna, Sweden, five-piece indie-folk collective Villa Rivercat has just released their new single, ‘More’ for which we're able to unveil the video directed by Kollekt Kodama. They mention Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes and Father John Misty as a source of influence to their own mesmerizing brand of indie-folk. Consisting of musicians and friends Hanna Fideli Fritzell (lead vocals, guitar), William Lindberg (bass guitar, vocals), Ida Säfström (vocals, violin, harmonica), Jonathan Vester (lead guitar) and Karl Geisler (drums, percussion), the collective is preparing to release their debut album Days and Weeks and Hours in December 2017.
Sonically, the track is a folk-rock journey through an alpine, mountainous region, as sunshine cascades through the leaves of fervent trees. Visually, the video embodies the band's affinity for nature.
The video for 'More' is a memory of summer, resonating solidarity, good times and beautiful places. It shows a group of people dancing and playing music, reminiscent of the psychedelic ethos of the 60's. The cinematics echo this feeling, with a low-fi, grainy texture cut with shots of clouds, birds and trees.
“'More' is about a young woman who Hanna met at a bar in Malmö who claimed she had escaped from a psychiatric department. She had been hospitalized and weighed 34 kilos, and she said that her face had aged at least ten years in the year she had been ill, and now she was on her way home. It is about to lie and play games and test how far you can go before anyone finds out. It's really a very tragic and unhappy song lyrically, but with a joyful sing-a-long chorus at the end, and the message that there is a friend in the night if one dares to let go of himself and tell someone about his or her demons.” said Villa Rivercat.
