1 Xtra to host third annual soundsytem clash

Giants of the soundsystem world will descend on the Ocean venue in east London on April 3 for the third annual UK Cup Clash, which will be sponsored once again by BBC digital station 1Xtra.

Among the contenders will be last year's winner Tony Matterhorn, Japanese masters Mighty Crown, Jamaica's Black Kat, Poison Dart from the US, Classique from the UK and, making their UK debut, Italy's One Love. The event will be nosted by Radio One's Chris Goldfinger and 1Xtra's Robbo Ranx and will be broadcast a week later on 1Xtra.

The event taps into the growing profile of dancehall music around the world and will give UK reggae fans a rare opportunity to experience at first hand some of the world's biggest soundsystem names under one roof. Although soundsystems such as Metromedia, Stonelove and Kilimanjaro used to visit the UK regularly, their appearances have been far more sporadic in recent years.
