Alt-J now strong favourites for Mercury Prize

British pop quartet Alt-J are emerging as strong favourites to win the Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize 2012.

Announced on Wednesday (September 12), the 12 finalists for this year’s prize were chosen from an entry of over 250 albums.

Initially, William Hill had Plan B and Richard Hawley down as its favourites to pick up the gong. However, the bookies' odds have now changed to put Alt-J's An Awesome Wave out in front with 7/4 odds.

Meanwhile, the Infectious-signed band are also favourite at Paddy Power, who give them 13/8 odds.
