ASCAP says it will distribute over $850 million in royalties in 2014.
The pay-outs will come from tracking an anticipated 500 billion performances over the year.
That figure represents a 100% increase on last year, when ASCAP tracked 250 billion performances.
The US collection society says that the rise is largely due to the way people consume music today as customised playlists gain ground over broadcasted programming.
