Australian competition commission to allow APRA 'virtual monopoly'

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is proposing to allow the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) to continue operating as it does for the next three years despite recognising the PRO’s “virtual monopoly”.

As a result of its position, however, the ACCC’s proposed authorisation of APRA’s arrangements for the acquisition and licensing of music performing rights come with a number of conditions.
