The BBC has praised the "annual fixture" of last night's Music Awards, as new figures show it pulled in a TV audience of 3.9 million people.
That is slightly less than the BRIT Awards attracted in February, which was the lowest TV figure since 2006 at 4.2 million.
Hosted by Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton, the BBC Music Awards was broadcast live and simultaneously on BBC One, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2.
