Billy Bragg delivered the annual BBC John Peel Lecture at the Radio Festival in Salford last night - and used the platform to question why Britain's modern emerging music stars tend not to be from a state school background.
Bragg told of his own journey from state school poet to punk solo star in the 1970s, and queried what John Peel would think of today's music listeners - who could use Spotify and other streaming services to personalise playlists.
