Birmingham arenas put up for sale by city council

The NEC Group - parent to Birmingham venues including the LG Arena and the National Indoor Arena - has been put up for sale by the city’s council.

The council has been the Group’s major shareholder since 1976 but says that it cannot afford the investment needed to further grow the business.

The move comes after reports in January said that Birmingham’s arenas could be sold so that the council could fund legal settlements surrounding equal salaries for women.
