American punk pop trio Blink 182 have split with their label Interscope Records and are currently in the process of writing new music to release next year.

The band broke the news earlier today (October 23), with guitarist and vocalist Tom Delonge writing on Twitter:

"@tomdelonge Freedom!! Blink as of today, is now an independent Artist!!!!!"

The band were signed to Interscope for the release of their sixth studio album Neighborhoods in 2011, and were previously signed to Geffen in the US.

Earlier this month, bassist Mark Hoppus told NME: "We're starting to write the new record right now. We're going to tour Australia in February with Blink... [so the] proper tour and the new album probably won't happen for about a year."

Drummer Travis Barker recently said of the forthcoming release: "I feel like the best is yet to come, the next album is going to be exciting."
