Channel 4 axes T4 - new Friday night music shows planned

Channel 4 is to close music and entertainment show T4 in December. The broadcaster has blamed a change in viewer habits for its decision.

It is now planning to pilot three new music shows in 2013, with a view to them airing on Friday nights as part of a schedule change.

T4, which  launched in 1998, is currently broadcast on Channel 4 on Saturday mornings and E4 on Sunday mornings. It previously held an annual summer festival, T4 On The Beach.

Head of formats Dominic Bird said: "This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to develop a credible popular music show for Friday nights and the pilots reflect our continued ambition to provide our younger audiences on Channel 4 with a range of entertaining music content."

Dermot O'Leary, Vernon Kay, Alexa Chung and Nick Grimshaw have all presented on T4.
