Christopher Maloney, the Liverpudlian singer who was a finalist on last year's X Factor, has signed a record deal with Tristar records.
After being released from Sony – who didn’t take up their option to sign him – Maloney has signed with the indie label to release his debut album later this year.
His debut single will be released in August.
Discussing the signing, Maloney said: “I wanted full control over what I was doing and full creativity and I wanted a label that will look after me. I didn’t want to go somewhere with big artists where I would be put on the sideline,
“If I signed with another record company, it would have been a lot longer process and my fans are waiting for my album now."
The style of the record “will be similar to Will Young’s sound when he first came out, songs like Leave Right Now and different to what people will expect.” the singer explained.
Two song writers and a producer are currently working on the album which Maloney promises will be “mostly new stuff” with “one or two covers”.
“It will start to feel real when I get in the studio in North Wales in five weeks. I’m really looking forward to it.” he said.
Other acts from the 2012 TV talent show Jahmene, Union J, Ella Henderson and winner James Arthur have all signed deals with Sony.
