After 17 years at Virgin/EMI, French electronic music duo Daft Punk have signed to Columbia prior to the release of their forthcoming album.
It has been widely reported that Daft Punk are working with Nile Rodgers on the record, due for release in spring, and that it will also feature work from famed disco producer Giorgio Moroder – both of whom were quizzed about the collaboration when they appeared at the International Music Summit (IMS) in May 2012.
Virgin Records now comes under the Universal umbrella following its buyout of Virgin parent label EMI. It was kept as part of the package, along with A&M/Octone, Angel, Blue Note, Capitol Records, Decca, Def Jam Recordings, Deutsche Grammophon, EMI Records, Geffen Records, Interscope Records, Island Records, I.R.S, Capitol Records Nashville, Manhattan, Mercury Records, Motown Records, Polydor Records, Republic Records, Universal Music Latino, Universal Music Nashville, Virgin Records and Verve Music Group, among many others.
Virgin Records in the UK is home to Emeli Sande, who had the top-selling LP in the UK last year with Our Version Of Events.
