The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has agreed an 8% cut in spending for 2015-2016, apparently securing its immediate future despite whispers that the department could be scrapped altogether.
The cut is expected to come as part of George Osborne’s Spending Review on June 26, although the BBC understands that arts and museums will share less of the burden, with reductions of around 5%.
