Digital radio transmitter brings airwaves to 250,000 Manchester listeners

Digital radio transmitter brings airwaves to 250,000 Manchester listeners

The new transmitter marks the culmination of four years of investment by broadcasters to deliver digital radio across Greater Manchester. From tomorrow, nearly 90% of Manchester households can receive the full line-up of 42 digital stations.

Channels include Key 103 and BBC Radio Manchester, as well as the BBC's digital music and sports stations, Heart, Absolute Radio 80s, Kiss, Jazz FM and Planet Rock.

Furthermore, an additional 120 kilometres of roads in Manchester will be able to receive all the digital radio stations for the first time.

The transmitter will be switched on by Mike and Chelsea, Key 103's breakfast presenters, Gary Stein, station director at Key 103, and Ford Ennals, CEO of Digital Radio UK.

Key 103 is also broadcasting a special pop-up station, Key 103D, to celebrate the day, with split digital/FM transmission and exclusive digital-only content.

The content includes special presenter links and exclusive live tracks from the likes of Ed Sheeran, Alex Clare and Jessie J from the Key 103 Castle Quay studio sessions.

There will also be an online takeover of www.key103.co.uk, plus social media activity on facebook.com/key 103 and #key103d.
