Edinburgh's Avalanche Records may close in January

One of Scotland’s most beloved independent record stores is likely to shut its doors in January 2013, although it plans to continue trading online.

Avalanche Records has traded in the heart of Edinburgh for more than 20 years and is a Music Week award nominee.

The owner of the shop - now based in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket - has blamed a lack of big new releases as one reason why it had struggled in 2012.
