Emeli Sande's debut LP Our Version Of Events has become the first album to sell more than a million copies in the UK this year.
According to Official Chart Company data, the second-biggest selling album of the year so far is Adele's 21, which has shifted more than 700,000 units in 2012 - but more than 4.5 million in total.
Sande's album has spent 42 consecutive weeks in the Official Top 10 since being released in February. According to her label Virgin, that's a feat not achieved by a debut album since the release of the Spice Girl’s debut Spice (1996).
Sande's first single of 2013, Clown, will be released on February 4. “It’s about how I felt when I was trying to get signed,” Sandé said of the song.
“I was going for all these meetings and people were looking at me like ‘What do we do with you’? It's about not allowing yourself to be judged by others or to be taken for an idiot. I feel the video reflects that”.
Sande won the Brit Awards 2012 Critics' Choice gong earlier this year.
