Peer-to-peer filesharing fell by 17% in the US in 2012 according to new research from the NPD Group.
Last year saw 21 million US consumers use P2P filesharing services. 2005 saw a peak in usage of 33m.
NPD says in its Annual Music Study report that of those consumers who said that they had stopped using P2P services, or reduced their usage, nearly half cited the availability of free, legal streaming music services as the main reason.
