George Entwistle named new BBC director general

Entwistle is currently director of BBC Vision and will take up the director general role from Mark Thompson.

The BBC Trust has said that Entwistle will be paid an annual salary of £450,000, a smaller figure than Thompson's £671,000.

As director of BBC Vision, Mr. Entwistle oversees the division responsible for commissioning, producing, scheduling and broadcasting all of its TV content.

He was selected for the director general role by a panel at the BBC Trust led by Lord Patton.
