Global music industry revenues declined 3.8% year-on-year in 2013 despite subscription service revenues rising 51%.
That’s according the IFPI’s Digital Music Report 2014, which says the worldwide decline was “heavily influenced” by Japan, which saw industry revenues fall 16.7% over the year.
The market counts for more than a fifth of global revenues. Excluding Japan, the global recorded music market was broadly flat, declining in value by 0.1%.
