Gotye wins Song of the Year at APRA Awards

Gotye, whose publishing is signed with Alberts was also named Songwriter of the Year by the APRA board.

The song topped the ARIA charts (Australia's Official Music Charts) for eight weeks, has been at the top of the US charts for six weeks and topped eleven countries.

The Melbourne based singer/songwriter shares songwriting credit with Brazilian performer Luiz Bonfa, having sampled the opening guitar notes of No.1 hit Seville.

The APRA board of directors also named Boy & Bear (Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia) as this year's Breakthrough Songwriter(s) of the Year.

Other winners included Shane Nicholson's Famous Last Words (Mushroom Music) for country work of the year, Busby Marou's Biding My Time (Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia) for blues and roots, The Potbelleez's From The Music (Universal Music Publishing) for dance, Birds of Tokyo's Wild At Heart (Mushroom Music) for rock, and Marvin Priest's Own This Club (EMI Music Publishing Australia/ Universal Music Publishing) for urban.

Based on statistics, AC/DC's Highway To Hell (J Albert and Son) was Most Played Australian Work Overseas while LMFAO's Party Rock Anthem (Kobalt Music Publishing Australia) was International Work of the Year.
