HMV shuts Ireland stores, 300 jobs lost

HMV receiver Deloitte has permanently shut the retailer’s 16 loss-making stores in Ireland, making 300 staff redundant in the process.

Deloitte said that the stores were closed due to the losses they were making and an inability to find a buyer.

"The marketplace is very difficult given competition from web-based retailers and digital downloads, compounded by a number of other factors including high levels of rent," Deloitte said in a statement.
