Impala has announced its latest Sales Awards numbers as the biggest ever, with 117 registrations from independent artists.
The awards recognise success on sales before the 1m mark. The levels are Silver (20,000+), Gold (75,000+), Diamond (200,000+), Platinum (400,000+) and Double Platinum (800,000+).
Artists include Andrea Bocelli (Italy), Mogwai (UK), The Notwist (Germany), Vitalic (France), Els Amics de les Arts (Spain), Soap & Skin (Austria), Royksopp (Norway) and Sigur Ros (Iceland).
Bocelli registers five separate titles for this edition of the awards, all at Double Platinum with over 4 million units sold, while Fabrizio de André has seven registrations. Catalan group Els Amics de les Arts receive two awards, with their album Bed & Breakfast reaching Double Silver.
As for other European artists, Alt-J’s An Awesome Wave (UK) receives a Gold award, adding to the group’s recent triumph in the Mercury Prize, while Mogwai (also UK) qualify for six awards.
Tiësto (Netherlands) sees three of his titles reach Gold, whilst several Belgian artists, including Soulwax, Gotye, dEUS, and Scala & Kolacny Brothers, also enjoy success.
In terms of international artists signed to European independent record labels, Dinosaur Jr. (USA) receive three awards, while fellow American Tom Waits registers Bad As Me at Diamond.
Arcade Fire (Canada) receive a Gold award for the critically acclaimed The Suburbs, with compatriots Saga registering their recent release 20/20. Temper Trap (Australia) submit two titles, with their debut album Conditions hitting Diamond.
