Apple has sent out the below confirmation of a new launch event on Tuesday, September 9 - almost certainly the day when iPhone 6 will be announced.

Although the Cupertino giant hasn't mentioned the new phone by name, the timing fits with its announcement cycle: last year it revealed both iPhone 5c and 5s in September.

Some suggest that the company could also reveal its long-rumoured Apple iWatch at the event.
