An emotional Wall told ACM attendees that he is to leave his position as director of Independent Members Services and International Events after over four years in the role.
"I want to thank everyone here from the BPI independent membership, especially those who I've gotten to know personally and from my activities as part of the Independent International Committee, BPI trade missions and all the other events and BPI work that I've been involved in," he said.
"I sincerely hope that we'll keep in touch and maybe even do some business in the not too distant future.
"I'd like to express my personal gratitude to all the independent BPI council members that I've worked with over the past four years and especially to Mike Batt, who as BPI deputy chairman throughout has been a pleasure to work with. Thank you Mike.
"And finally, thanks to all those in the BPI office; chairman Tony Wadsworth, CEO Geoff Taylor, my assistant Debi Blackgrove, plus all the staff who do a great job.
"Thank you very much and it's been great working with you."
Wall is widely credited for bringing the BPI closer to indie labels, a point made by Geoff Taylor and Dramatico's Mike Batt, who made his appreciation known in a "controlled heckle."
"I just wanted to say my personal thanks and redirect any focus that's been put on me, because the indies in the BPI are a team," said Batt from the audience.
"We all get on really well with each other, we work with the majors and we work with each other in a way that is quite extraordinary.
"We have had the most fantastic stewardship of our indie members from Julian, and I think it's a great blow for us to have lost you Julian. I wanted to personally thank you but I hope also on behalf of the indies and on the behalf of my major colleagues on the council.
"Thank you so much for everything you've done with the trade missions and other marvelous things - the synch missions to LA have been particularly successful - and the vibrancy, drive and imagination that you've brought to the role. Thank you very much."
Geoff Taylor rounded off tributes to Wall saying, "I just want to add my personal thanks to Julian.
"For several years he's been an outstanding representative for indie interests to me, to Tony, to the council. He's been a very strong voice within the BPI reminding us always to put indie issues at the top of our agenda and he's done a fabulous job, as Mike said, with the trade missions.
"We're really sorry to see him go. We will obviously start the process of finding someone to fulfill that role now, but thank you Julian for being a fantastic member of the team."
