AlunaGeorge have become the first act to play a new showcase platform for artists at the Westfield London and Westfield Stratford City shopping centres.

The Island signings performed this week at Westfield Presents, which will feature both new and emerging acts from a pool including the Brit School, University of West London, Emerging Icons, Tech Music School, Universal and the Mayor of London Gigs Competition.

The two shopping centres will play host to live music events every weekend this summer with a promise of bills covering everything from "chilled-out afternoon tunes" to "more update tracks on a Saturday evening".

Westfield European managing director Michael Gutman said: “Westfield continually seeks to innovate and find ways to delight consumers when they visit our malls. We are also incredibly proud of supporting aspiring artists with a variety of indoor and outdoor and large and small venues in which to showcase their talent ”

London Mayor Boris Johnson said Westfield Presents was a fantatsic addition to the city's line-up of summer events.

"As well as providing free entertainment to shoppers it's a wonderful opportunity for up and coming musicians to play to new audiences and gain exposure and I'm pleased some our Gigs artists will be taking part," he added.

Brit School students will feature on the stages throughout the summer, while its technical students will support the Westfield events team.

Brit School principal Stuart Worden said: “This exciting partnership offers students studying at The Brit School the chance to perform on a platform which supports emerging new talent. It will give them confidence and an insight into performing to audiences in a dynamic environment. This will help shape and build their careers.”

Emergingicons.com CEO Kat Jackman, whose organisation put on breaking acts at last year's Olympic Games and will now feature talent at Westfield, said: “Following a successful partnership with Emerging Icons ® Live and Westfield London we are pleased to announce the launch of a retail focused music subscription service. Available soon to buy through the Emerging Icons digital store is the 'SuperFan' clothing range. Buy a piece of our branded clothing, scan the QR code on the garment label, and become a member of the first ever fresh new music subscription service. You will receive a free membership, which entitles you to weekly downloads, videos and tickets from the best new acts in the country. It is an ethical way to promote new music, where profits go towards helping more musicians to get a platform and be heard.”

Emerging Icons pop, indie and electro acts will perform on the Westfield Presents stage every Thursday and Friday evening until September, while there will be acoustic jazz on Sunday afternoons. These will be accompanied by a compilation album coming out at the end of the summer and featuring Emerging Icons artists. The album will be promoted via Westfield and Jackman's organisation.
