Music Week Presents: Joe Perkins

Joe Perkins

Bristol-based solo musician Joe Perkins has a burning passion for all aspects of the creative process and declares: “Most music in the charts nowadays seems to get flak for being ‘manufactured’ and ‘standardised’. You don’t get that with me.”

He recently recorded his debut album, A Host Of Other Artists – a record that is entirely self-penned, engineered, produced and mixed, and features an assortment of lead vocalists. Critically-acclaimed mastering engineer Ray Staff added the finishing touches at AIR Studios in London.

Having studied several instruments from an early age, Perkins soon recognised his love of making music and decided that the life of a professional musician was the way to go. The album draws on an eclectic melting pot of influences but takes inspiration primarily from rock music and the guitar heroes of the last 40 years.

Three years studying for a degree in Commercial Music on the Isle of Wight allowed Perkins to take advantage of the facilities of various recording studios to fine-tune his skills as an engineer and producer. During this period he also performed at the Isle of Wight Festival, Bestival, and live dates in Holland in addition to working as a freelance journalist - he still reviews gigs for major newspapers in the South West.
