Music Week Presents: Sasha Siem

Sasha Siem

Sasha Siem is a composer and singer-songwriter who combines raw and playful lyrics with intricately crafted accompaniments to create a unique and mysterious sound.

Her forthcoming debut LP, Knots and do-nots, has been as influenced by composers G. Kurtag, Claude Vivier, and Salvatore Sciarrino and singer-songwriters such as Tom Waits, Jacques Brel, Bjork and Joanna Newsom.

Born in London to a British mother and Norwegian father, Sasha began playing the cello and writing songs at an early age. By her early twenties, she had written music for the London Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Opera House, Rambert Dance Company, Opera North, The Aldeburgh Festival, The London Sinfonietta, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2010, she became one of the youngest people to win a prestigious British composer award.

The Guardian recently noted that Sasha is 'making waves in the music scene', while The Times wrote 'Sasha is clearly a gifted musician'. CBS magazine hailed her as a 'woman of note' and a talent to watch in 2013.
