Nearly half of UK nightclubs have closed since 2005 - report

Almost half of nightclubs in the UK have closed in the last 10 years, according to newly released figures.

Venues organisation The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) says the number of clubs has decreased from 3,144 to 1,733 since 2005, reports BBC Newsbeat.

ALMR CEO Kate Nicholls believes planning and licensing rules are the reason for some of the closures, with neighbours complaining if they live nearby - even if the venue was there before they moved in.
