New speakers added to MusicTank ticketing summit

New speakers from Songkick, AIF, Scarlet Mist and Which? have been added to MusicTank’s final think tank of 2012 which will focus on ticketing.

Christiaan Munro, co-founder and director of e-commerce and ticketing specialist Sandbag, will present a case study of Radiohead’s recent world tour, its aims and lessons learned.

Munro will then join Songkick’s Dan Rogers, in charge of their Detour/crowdfunding project, on the first of the two panels, which looks at ways of improving innovation in the primary ticket market.

In response to growing calls for regulation of the secondary market, the second panel will address the question of what regulation should be sought.

Ben Turner, co-chair of the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) and a director of the Bestival festivals, which set up the The Ticket Trust alongside Sandbag and recently launched a Fair Ticketing Charter, will join Richard Marks, founder of ethical ticketing exchange Scarlet Mist consumer specialist Caitlin Graham, policy advisor at Which?.

The added speakers will join WeGotTickets’ Dave Newton (keynote speaker for the Innovation panel) and Aline Renet of PRODISS, the trade organisation for the French live music industry that successfully pushed for legislative change that gives promoters control of their tickets (keynote speaker for the Regulation panel). Both panels will be moderated by MusicTank Chairman Keith Harris.

Further speakers are being finalised.

In the wake of revelations in a February episode of Dispatches (The Great Ticket Scandal), Government inaction, and the continued growth of online secondary sites, the event intends to move the debate on in terms of potential legislation and opportunities to innovate in the primary market.

MusicTank Chairman Keith Harris said: “Four years ago when MusicTank first took on this issue, the alarm bells were ringing, but the Government and the industry hit snooze. Now it's definitely time to wake up and get to work on solving this problem, before it's too late.”
