Leading music exec Nick Gatfield and singer Lily Cooper have praised Tom Odell following the announcement of his Brits Critics’ Choice Award win, with both expressing excitement for the singer’s year to come.
Singer-songwriter Odell is signed to Columbia via Lily Cooper’s (nee Allen’s) label In The Name Of.
He will be handed the award in person at the Brit Awards 2013 in London on February 20.
Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment UK Gatfield said, “Tom is an incredible talent and an utterly deserving winner of this year’s BRITs Critics Choice award.
“I speak for everyone at Columbia and Sony when I say how delighted we are for Tom and how excited we are about the year to come.”
Cooper added: “I'm thrilled, and so pleased for Tom that he has won The Brits Critics' Choice Award.
“I was blown away when I first heard him live a couple of years ago and it has been a privilege to witness the progress he has made since then.
"I felt at the time, and all the more so today, that he was exactly the type of artist I wanted to work with on the ITNO label; determined, unique, incredibly talented… and as an added bonus; really hot!
“Tom, this is well deserved and here's to great things ahead.”
Meanwhile, The Brit Awards 2013 will feature a brand new prize to recognise the achievements of British artists overseas. A full list of award categories can be found here.
