Today (September 24), a week after the longest-serving Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Chris Moyles left the prestigious slot, Nick Grimshaw has taken up the morning presenting spot.
The 28-year-old opened the show and admitted "I'm excited and nervous and just want to get on with it... let's get on with it."
"It was like the first day of school, I laid my clothes out (before I went to bed)".
Replacing Chris Moyles who had been at the station for eight years, ‘Grimmy’s’ first track on air was Paris by Kanye West and Jay-Z, explaining his choice as " the sort of music I want to play - big pop songs which are good."
A decade younger than his predecessor, the aim is that Grimmy’s slot will strengthen and grow the station’s 16-24 year-old audience and he is tasked with playing twice as many songs as Moyles did – a chatty host whose audience peaked at 7.9million in 2010.
