Ofcom radio format changes welcome, 'but should go further,' say commercial stations

Ofcom has today announced changes to the way in which mainstream popular music stations are described, reducing the number of categories and simplifying rules for local commercial stations.

Currently, different commercial radio stations are required to provide a certain proportion of speech or music of a particular genre in order to comply with their station format as set out by Ofcom.
