Official UK album chart: Elton John and Pnau are No.1

Tim Ingham
Elton John vs. Pnau

Elton John has claimed his first UK No.1 album in 22 years, thanks to Australian electronic duo Pnau.

A selection of John’s 1970-1976 tracks have been mixed by Pnau for new album Good Morning To The Night - which tonight tops the Official Artist Albums list.

Pnau, who spun out of Nick Littlemore’s 2009 project Empire Of The Sun, have reworked John's original masters with added loops, samples and their own material too. It is John's first No.1 album since 1990’s The Very Best Of Elton John.

Elsewhere in the Top 5, Maroon 5’s Overexposed climbs one place to No. 2, Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange is at 3, while Paul Simon’s Graceland (4) climbs four places.  Ed Sheeran’s debut release + completes the Top 5.

A total of four new entries secure a midweek Top 40 placing.  Led by Elton John vs Pnau (1), new offering Life Is Good (8) gives US rapper Nas his first UK Top 10, while Andrew Lloyd Webber’s current Superstar TV talent search helps bring about the release of a new digitally remastered version of the original studio cast recording of Jesus Christ Superstar (22).

Hans Zimmer’s original soundtrack to move The Dark Knight Rises is Number 36.
