After she raised a million dollars to make her new album via a Kickstarter campaign online, artist Amanda Palmer has further endorsed the power of social media saying that Twitter has replaced Google and Management.
In an interview with Billboard, Palmer enthused about the role the microblogging site in her recent success “It has been a fucking great year on Twitter. I could write a whole fucking book about Twitter. It changed the way I view touring for sure.”
She added that “Twitter has replaced Google and management” and noted her fans’ responsiveness when asking for help and the need for the relationship to be reciprocal “It definitely has to be a two-way conversation”.
Her spontaneous behaviour, such as impromptu gigs in small, obscure locations and sudden t-shirt sales owe their success to fans spreading the word, with the latter example raising $19,000.
Palmer has almost 600,000 Twitter followers and 148,000 Facebook likes.
