The Paralympics closing ceremony drew in a peak UK audience of 7.7 million on Channel 4 last night.
With performances from the likes of Coldplay, Rihanna and Jay-Z, the broadcast's average audience was 5.9 million, equivalent to a 25.7 per cent share of the total television audience at the time.
The closing ceremony figures paled in comparison to those of the Paralympics opening ceremony, however, which drew a peak audience of 11.2 million – Channel 4’s biggest audience for a decade – and an average of 7.6million, equating to a 40% share.
The spectacle saw Coldplay perform throughout the show. The band was joined on stage by Rihanna for their collaborative track Princess Of China before playing her Calvin Harris hit We Found Love.
Jay-Z joined the British band for a customised version of their hit single Paradise before Rihanna joined the rapper onstage for a rendition of Run This Town before Coldplay closed the show.
