Pete Tong is to join US broadcasting company Clear Channel to host a new EDM channel for its streaming radio service iHeartRadio.

Tong’s shows – All Gone Pete Tong – will appear on new channel Evolution - likely a response to the boom in EDM’s popularity in the US. It will present listeners with dance music not played in the Top 40 as well as featuring shows by other established names including Diplo and Fatboy Slim.

"There's been a huge rise in the popularity of dance music in America," Tong told the New York Times.

"I think that there's so much more to the genre and that's what Evolution is going to be about: broadening the base, providing the platform for the other 95 percent."

Clear Channel’s president of national programming platforms said of Tong, “"We know that we needed to have that kind of credibility in anything we created.”

Evolution will be iHeartRadio’s first EDM outlet with a mainly live radio host, others will act more as playlist stations.
