HMV’s collapse into administration has sparked fears that demand for physical product could soon become extinct.
According to sources, the retailer accounts for just under a third of all annual UK physical music revenues and the industry is worried over the financial feasibility of a CD distribution network without HMV’s 240 UK stores.
However, it may not be the end of the road as labels come out to pledge support for physical product with or without HMV.
And, of course, administrator Deloitte is looking for a suitable buyer – who could yet revive the flagging chain.
