Primary Wave Music has finalised a publishing joint venture with the independent label Elm City Music.
The deal gives Primary Wave Music administration rights to market and leverage some of the label’s current artist roster, as well as co-publish future signings.
Primary Wave is one of the largest independent music publishing, marketing and talent management companies in the US and Elm City was founded in 2012 by A&R veteran Michael Caplan.
Justin Shukat, president of Primary Wave Music Publishing said: “Michael and I worked together for years while he was at Sony and I’m excited to have his ear for talent as part of the Primary Wave team. He is a true A&R man and very few exist in this business anymore.”
Before Elm City Music, Michael Caplan was head of A&R at Sony for 23 years, where he signed acts such as The Allman Brothers Band, Tower of Power, Living Colour, Keb Mo, Ginuwine, G.Love and Special Sauce, Matisyahu, Los Lonely Boys, and many others. Elm City’s current artist roster spans across genres from the heavy metal group Adrenaline Mob, rock-pop band Miggs, Stephen Kellogg, and singer-songwriter Andrew Belle, who just released his sophomore album Black Bear on August 20 which debuted at #3 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart. Belle’s music has also recently been featured on popular TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy (ABC), The Vampire Diaries (CW), and Castle (ABC).
Caplan said: “It’s refreshing to see a team like Primary Wave, who thinks so large and doesn’t wait for the opportunity to come to them. They have always approached publishing with an unfettered naked aggression.
“They not only land syncs consistently for their publishing roster, but also market their catalogs in ways that other music publishers don’t.”
