RAJAR: Radio 1 reach up 2.5% in Q2 2014, 1Xtra down 15%

RAJAR figures for Q2 2014 are in. At the BBC, Radio 1 saw its reach increase quarter-on-quarter as Radio 2 dipped slightly over the period - and 1Xtra saw massive slips.

Radio 1 saw a 2.5% increase in reach quarter-on-quarter, moving from 10,532,000 in Q1 14 to 10,795,000 in Q2 14. Year-on-year, the station’s reach was down 2%, however. In Q2 2013, it stood at 11,018,000.

Radio 1’s share (in TSA) stood at 6.8% in Q2 2014 – up from 6.7% in Q1 14 and flat year-on-year.

Radio 2 recorded a weekly reach of 15,496,000 – up 0.3% year-on-year from 15,443,000 in Q2 2013.

The latest figure represents a quarterly dip for Radio 2 whose weekly reach stood at 15,568,000 in Q1, meaning the station has seen a slight slip of 0.5%.

Similarly, Radio 2’s share has increased year-on-year from 17.2% in Q2 2013 to 17.7% in Q2 2014, but the latest figure is down from 17.9% in Q1 14.

6 Music’s reach made strong year-on-year gains despite a quarterly dip. The station’s Q2 2014 reach stood at 1,891,000 – up 5.5% compared to Q2 2013 (1,792,000) but down 1.9% compared to Q1 2014 (1,927,000)

6 Music managed a 1.6% share in Q2 2014 – up from 1.5% in Q2 2013 but down from 1.7% in Q1 2014.

BBC 1Xtra dipped below the 1 million mark as its reach plummeted 15.9% year-on-year and 15.0% quarter-on-quarter.

The station’s Q2 2013 reach was 1,114,000, which dipped to 1,102,000 in Q1 14 and slipped further in Q2 14 to 937,000.

1Xtra's share stood at 0.5% - flat year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter.
