REM ban Fox News from playing Losing My Religion

REM have ordered Fox News to stop playing their song Losing My Religion in association with its coverage of this week's Democratic National Convention in the US.

The controversial news network has been using the song during its reporting from the Democrat party's rally, which took place earlier this week and featured a speech from ex-president Bill Clinton.

In a strongly worded statement, the band said: "REM's Losing My Religion was used in the Fox News coverage of the Democratic National Convention last night.

"R.E.M. today, through its music publisher, Warner-Tamerlane Music, demanded that Fox News cease and desist from continuing its unlicensed and unauthorized use of the song"

Lead singer Michael Stipe said, "We have little or no respect for [Fox's] puff adder brand of reportage. Our music does not belong there."

Stipe has been a vocal supporter of the Democrat party in past US elections.

President Barack Obama will defend his seat from Republican leader Mitt Romney at the US elections on Tuesday, November 6.
