Simon Cowell has praised the past year’s success of Syco Entertainment as the joint venture with Sony Music is “genuinely producing global artists.”
Speaking at Sony’s annual showcase yesterday (Wednesday, September 11) via a video link, the exec used the example of One Direction as an act who prove how the music, television and film company can reach its full potential.
“It’s been a fantastic year for Syco and I think what we’ve proved is that we have great synergy,” said Cowell. “One Direction were on a Syco TV show, we then put some records out which sold very well over the world, and with Sony studios we collaborated together on the movie This Is Us which has become a huge hit. That’s how we believed the joint venture would work.
“I am excited for the future, for the partnership we now have and about the fact the shows are genuinely producing global artists and I'm happy – which is rare.”
Priority acts for the label include One Direction, 2012 X Factor winner James Arthur, Ella Henderson – who Cowell said could be “the new Adele" - Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle, Il Divo, Little Mix and Paul Potts – who all have new music out before the end of the year.
Syco managing director Sonny Takhur said: “I can honestly say that I have never been more excited about our artists and their music. Each artist has risen to the occasion and created albums that are not only authentic but have the ambition to be successful around the world I’m very proud of what they’ve achieved.”
