It runs on SoundCloud's API and was developed in-house. The new features include:
- Social Unlock - allows users to create a customised page to promote new recordings and offer fans free downloads if they share the links via social media sites such as Twitter
- Importer - lets users import tracks into their account via a URL, email or mobile connection
- Google Apps Gmail Plugin - currently only available for Google Apps accounts, this means SoundCloud players can be embedded into emails
- Takes Questions - having launched in beta last month, this tool has gone fully public and lets users record questions for music creators who also record and upload their answers
SoundCloud founder and CTO Eric Wahlforss said, "At SoundCloud we believe the web is too quiet, so devising new ideas to fill it with sound is what keeps our developer team awake at night. SoundCloud Labs allows these innovations to come to life, but can remain relatively easy to manage as they stay in their experimental form."
SoundCloud now has over 4m users.
